Good governance is about how people in charge use their power when making decisions for the public. The goal of governance is to make sure everyone gets a fair deal and that we can all live better lives. Good governance is really important because it makes sure that the people in charge are doing things in an honest way and that they are responsible for what they do. Good governance focuses on what happens, how decisions are made and making sure that the people in charge answer for their actions.
Major Elements of Good Governance
The rule of law is when people who make decisions have to follow the law. This means the law is fair and everyone is treated equally. The rule of law is important because it makes sure that decisions are made within a framework. This framework ensures that everyone is equal, before the law, which’s the rule of law.
Transparency: Availability of information and clarity in decision-making processes.
Accountability: Public officials are answerable for their actions to institutions and citizens.
Participation: Inclusion of citizens in decision-making through democratic mechanisms.
Institutions are very good at responding to what the public needs. They do this in a manner so that the public gets what they want when they need it. Institutions like these are always ready to help the public. They do it fast. This shows that these institutions really care about the public and their needs. The public can count on institutions to respond promptly to their needs.
Efficiency and Effectiveness: Optimal use of resources to deliver public services.
Equity and inclusiveness are really important to me. We need to make sure that every single person in our society has the opportunities. This means that no group of people is left behind when it comes to development. Equity and inclusiveness are about being fair and giving everyone a chance to succeed. We have to make sure that equity and inclusiveness are part of everything we do so that every person can have a life.
Good governance strengthens democracy, promotes sustainable development, and builds public trust in institutions.
