About Mahila Samman Savings Certificate (MSSC) Scheme:
Overview:
- A one-time scheme announced in Budget 2023, available for a two-year period until March 2025.
- A risk-free scheme designed for women and girls of all age groups.
Key Benefits:
- Offers a maximum deposit facility of up to Rs 2 lakh for a tenure of 2 years.
- Encourages women to adopt formal financial saving instruments.
Eligibility:
- Open to individual women.
- Minors can have accounts opened by their guardians.
Investment:
- Deposit amounts range from a minimum of Rs 1,000 to a maximum of Rs 2 lakh, in multiples of Rs 100.
Interest Rate:
- Fixed interest rate of 7.5%, compounded quarterly and credited to the account.
Maturity and Withdrawal:
- The scheme has a 2-year lock-in period.
- Account holders can withdraw up to 40% of the balance after one year from the account opening date.
Multiple Accounts:
- Multiple accounts can be opened under this scheme, with a minimum gap of three months between the opening of successive accounts.
- The total deposit across all accounts should not exceed Rs 2 lakh.
Tax Benefits:
- The scheme does not offer any tax benefits.
Typhoon-K Vehicle
Why in News: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) successfully showcased and tested the powerful Typhoon vehicle at its Transport Battalion in Chandigarh.
About Typhoon-K Vehicle:
Overview:
- The Kamaz-53949 Typhoon-K is a Russian-made 4×4 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle.
- Developed by Remdiesel, a subsidiary of KamAZ.
- Designed for the safe transport of troops and military cargo in mine-prone areas.
- Can be configured as a command post vehicle, ambulance, or logistics support vehicle.
Dimensions and Capacity:
- Measures 6.7 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, and 2.8 meters in height.
- Weighs 13,700 kg and can carry a payload of 2,000 kg.
- Accommodates two crew members and eight fully equipped troops.
Performance:
- Maximum road speed of 100 km/h.
- Range of up to 1,000 km without refueling.
Design:
- Equipped with four side doors and a rear door.
- Roof fitted with two hatches for observation, firing, and emergency exit.
Protection:
- Can withstand an 8 kg TNT explosion under the floor and a 10 kg TNT explosion under the wheels.
- Features a signature reduction package, all-around video surveillance system, and automatic fire-extinguishing unit.
Armament:
- Fitted with a stabilized remotely controlled weapon station (RCWS), which can be armed with medium-to-heavy machine guns.

Why in News: India has pledged $85 million over a 10-year period, from 2022 to 2032, to support the initiatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Traditional Medicine Centre.
About WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre (WHO GCTM):
Location and Foundation:
- Located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, the WHO GCTM is a knowledge centre for traditional medicine.
- The Indian Prime Minister laid the foundation stone in April 2022, in the presence of the WHO Director-General.
- It is the first global outpost centre for traditional medicine, established under the Ministry of AYUSH.
Objectives:
- The primary aim is to harness the potential of traditional medicine through modern science and technology to improve global health.
- It focuses on building a strong evidence base for policies and standards on traditional medicine practices and products.
- Helps countries integrate traditional medicine into their health systems and regulate its quality and safety for sustainable impact.

- Involves genetic testing to detect changes in an individual’s genetic material, including chromosomes, genes, or proteins.
Genetic Material:
- Contains information crucial for determining traits like hair and eye color, and is inherited from parents.
- Alterations in genes can increase the risk of developing certain diseases or conditions.
Purpose:
- Aims to identify altered genes to assess risk and provide preventive measures and early treatment options.
Genetic Testing in Sports:
- Historical Context: Genetic tests, originally for detecting diseases, entered sports in the late 1990s as scientists began exploring how genes influence athletic performance.
- Genetic Variants: Scientists study genetic variants, or mutations in DNA sequences, which contribute to unique athletic characteristics.

Article 311 of Indian Constitution
Why in News: The Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir recently cited Article 311 of the Constitution to dismiss six government employees from their positions.
About Article 311 of the Indian Constitution:
Purpose:
- Article 311 outlines the procedure and safeguards for dismissing, removing, or reducing the rank of government employees.
- It serves as protection against arbitrary actions by the government and upholds natural justice principles.
Procedure:
- No government employee can be dismissed, removed, or demoted without an inquiry where they are informed of the charges and given a chance to defend themselves.
- Only the authority that appointed the employee, or an authority of equal rank, can remove them.
Grounds for Action:
- Efficiency: If the employee’s performance or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory or harmful to government efficiency.
- Moral Turpitude: If the employee is involved in corruption, bribery, fraud, or other offenses involving moral turpitude.
Procedure for Disciplinary Action:
- Formulation of Charges: The authority must clearly state the charges and grounds for disciplinary action.
- Opportunity to Respond: The employee must be given a chance to respond to the charges and present their defense.
- Inquiry: An impartial inquiry should be conducted, allowing the employee to present their case and cross-examine witnesses.
- Consideration of Inquiry Report: The report should include all evidence and submissions from the inquiry.

Price Monitoring System App
Why in News: The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy recently introduced Version 4.0 of the Price Monitoring System (PMS) mobile app.
About Price Monitoring System (PMS) App:
Responsibility and Purpose: The Price Monitoring Division (PMD) in the Department of Consumer Affairs oversees the tracking of prices for selected essential commodities. To enhance price data accuracy, the department launched the PMS App in 2021 for daily price reporting by various centers.
Data Source: The app collects daily retail and wholesale prices from 550 centers via the State Civil Supplies Departments of respective state governments.
Commodities Monitored: Initially tracking 22 essential commodities such as Rice, Wheat, Sugar, and Oil, the app has recently expanded to include 16 new items like Bajra, Jowar, and Ghee. Currently, 38 commodities are monitored, representing approximately 31% of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) weights, up from 26.5% covered by the initial 22 commodities.
Significance: The price data collected supports government policy-making, RBI decisions, and economic analysis related to CPI inflation.
