Examine the role of technology in improving administrative accountability in India.

Technology is really important for making the government more accountable. It does this by limiting the power of officials making things more transparent and allowing the public to keep a closer eye on what is going on. The Indian state is using governance platforms to change the way it operates. These platforms are making a difference in how the country is run. Technology and digital governance platforms are helping to make the government more accountable, to the people.

The government has made some changes with things like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and online complaint systems. These changes have really helped to stop money from being wasted. Made sure that people get the services they need.

Technology has also made things more straightforward and easier to follow. This means that there is room for people to do things that are not fair. Managers can now use things, like maps and special identification tools to see how things are going and find any problems. They can look at the data. See what is working and what is not. This helps them to make sure that everything is running smoothly and that people are getting what they need from the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and other services.

Problems still exist with systems. The fact that some people do not have access to technology and some officials do not have the necessary skills and the algorithms are not clear can make it harder to hold people accountable for digital systems. Digital systems can make it harder to hold people accountable of making it easier. If we rely much on digital technology without people checking what digital technology is doing then the people in charge of administration will not be responsible, for what digital systems are doing. Digital systems will not be accountable if people are not checking what digital systems are doing.

Moving ahead, accountability driven by technology needs to be enhanced with organizational protections, data security protocols, and ethical guidelines. Enhancing civil servant skills and raising citizen awareness are both essential for ensuring that technology serves to promote democratic accountability instead of acting as a technocratic substitute.
