Recently, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) signed 70 Technology Transfer Agreements with Indian businesses to broaden its industry collaborations. Through these arrangements, sophisticated technology generated across ISRO facilities can be accessed and used commercially by domestic industry. This expanding portfolio of transfers demonstrates NSIL’s increasing significance in fostering domestic capacity, bolstering India’s commercial space ecosystem, and quickening private sector involvement in high-tech fields.
About NewSpace India Limited
On March 6, 2019, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a fully owned Government of India company, was incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013. As the commercial division of ISRO, it operates under the administrative direction of the Department of Space (DoS) and is in charge of introducing ISRO’s technologies, satellites, launch services, and space-based solutions to the commercial sector.
Primary Responsibility
- to give Indian industry access to ISRO-developed systems, designs, and technologies so they can engage in high-tech space activities.
- to make it easier for goods, platforms, and services developed from India’s space program to be used and promoted for profit.
Major Business Areas of NSIL
- Large-scale private launch vehicle manufacturing was made possible by the industry’s production of PSLV and SSLV.
- Marketing and provision of space-based services, such as mission support, satellite communication, transponder leasing, and remote sensing systems.
- Constructing Earth observation and communication satellites that are specifically tailored to the needs of government and commercial customers.
- Technology developed by ISRO is transferred to indigenous industry to increase the country’s capability in space hardware and sophisticated engineering.
- Commercialisation of spinoff technologies that result from ISRO’s research and development efforts and the provision of consulting services in specialist space fields.
